Strength of character

"The depth and strength of a human character are defined by its moral reserves. People reveal themselves completely only when they are thrown out of the customary conditions of their life, for only then do they have to fall back on their reserves."

- Leonardo Da Vinci (1452-1519), Italian draftsman, painter, sculptor, architect and engineer whose genius epitomized the Renaissance ideal

I say AMEN to this sunny.

some people appear so strong, so valiant, so kind, caring and even fearsome when they are on top.. or when things are smooth sailing... or when things go the way they planned...(hinga muna :)).... then fall apart when things go haywire.

And there are some people who become stronger, more valiant, kinder and more caring when things get rough.

The latter is a lot more admirable. And IMO, most of the time, they are the ones who survive with flying colors.

:) i wonder how strength is nurtured... are they best built by the family or the individual's experiences...?

We all want and work to be strong so that even when tough times come, we can be graceful and rational under the pressure. =)

I suddenly remembered what Michael Jordan wrote in his book ("I can't accept not trying: Michael Jordan on the pursuit of excellence). He stressed the point that a player can't be wishy-washy and lazy during practices, then expect to excel during the game or when it's crunch time, like really high-pressure moments in the game. I think this applies to life in general as well.

All I can say is, if we take care of the "little things", we'll do well when we encounter the "big things".

Strength built by the family or an individual's experiences? Hmm, I believe both. =)

Thanks for your insights, AsianSmiles!
